Tidal Journeys

I participated in one of the Tidal Journeys kayaking retreats in 2022 and had an amazing time. The preparation and organization for a trip like this must have been immense, and everything went off without a hitch. The kayaking instruction enabled me to feel confident in our multi-day open-water journey despite being a novice. Being in the wilderness and having all our meals prepared for us was a luxury I haven't experienced while camping before (and they all tasted amazing!). And the counselling portion of the trip enabled deep reflection and strong connection between everyone who participated. Highly recommend this group and this experience!

As a novice kayaker I never thought I could paddle in open water for 3+ hours per day for 3 days in a row. It's quite an achievement. Safety is the #1 thing John emphasized right at the beginning. We were given the safety training before getting into the water and I feel safe the whole time. Everything is well planned and organized. This is the best way to explore Howe Sound.

I have journeyed with Tidal Journeys twice now in the role of self-development coach. Each time, I have felt completely relaxed in the elements, comfortably exposed to new challenges under the patient teaching of John, and most importantly… been well fed. This is the restoration I look forward to.

Thank you John, EJ and Morgan for an unforgettable trip to Desolation Sound. I felt safe and at ease throughout the trip surrounded by wonderful people.This is an experience that you should not pass up. I felt present and worry free the entire time, it was something I really needed after the pandemic. I can only show my gratitude to John and EJ for sharing this with us. Everything from the equipment, location, food (with fresh chicken) and memories made was spectacular. They made sure we were able to enjoy ourselves and connect with others.

We had an amazing time kayaking around Howe Sound as a family (with two teen girls). Tidal Journeys provides all the gear - not just for kayaking but for camping too - so we just had to show up with our personal items. The meals were unbelievable - tasty, healthy, made from scratch - no weird, processed, freeze-dried packets! They even accommodated for our many many allergies and restrictions. John and Jess are great guides - super prepared, skilful and knowledgable but also relaxed and so kind. We would never have been able to make this trip on our own. Can't wait to go on another one!

Let me start off by saying, kayaking and camping out in the wilderness is something that was uncomfortable for me. Being someone with Crohn's, the comfort was a worry for me especially around food and overall being able to be relaxed in nature.I'm really thankful that my first experience was with John and his team. First off, John is one of the nicest guys you will meet, you will instantly get along with him. Jess our guide for the trip was absolutely fantastic too. Made us feel comfortable and at ease the entire trip.We had some amazing food... better than most people eat in Vancouver. Alfredo chicken pasta, fajitas and more. Secondly, the kayaking experience was amazing, so cool to see Howe sound and I'd never imagine how many cool spots there were.If you are afraid of bugs, sure there are some, but when you are in your tent you are safe, also just take some bug spray or thick clothing. It wasn't bad.Overall, the experience we had was fantastic, and one where I got to get some downtime, think, and relax. So good being away from technology.Thanks John and Jess for the awesome time.

I would 100% recommend Tidal Journeys to anyone! I have had the opportunities to experience a variety of the trips and courses that are offered and ALL of them are top quality and fun.The Octapus Islands men's trip was one of the biggest highlights of my life. The whole trip was amazing! I just had a blast being out in the aquatic nature and being able to bond with an amazing group of guys. The meals were absolutely delicious! John, Jess, and Carson are an amazing group of staff who are fun, kind, and professional.John, Jess, and EJ are all great teachers when it comes to learning kayaking skills. I would highly recommend checking out their skill courses if you are interested in trying out sea kayaking.
